It’s Wednesday, so that means it’s time for ‘Where are they Now?’. This week we travel back to California to meet Mimi from the NorCal 11rescue. Read on to find out all about Mimi’s life after freedom.

BFP: How did your family find you?
Mimi: My family found out about me when they saw a news story about Belle from the NorCal rescue. They already had two dogs but knew they had to try to adopt from a rescue organization.

BFP: How did you get your name?
Mimi: My other canine sisters are Misha and Missy. See a pattern here? We all have names that start with the letter “M”. So, Mimi, it was!

BFP: How long did you spend in a research lab?
Mimi: I was a year and a half when my family adopted me. I had a baby that was also rescued. I wonder how she’d doing. . .

BFP: How was your adjustment after your release?
Mimi: I had a plethora of phobias. I was scared of cars, men with glasses, loud voices, loud noises. I still get overwhelmed by unfamiliar dogs. I didn’t know how to be a dog. Just learning to live in a home was strange. I had to be potty trained and needed to learn where to sleep, eat and how to use a doggie door. I’ve really blossomed though! I am not the scared dog that came to live here. I am happy, safe and loved every day.

BFP: Where do you live, Mimi?
Mimi: I live with my mom and dad and two human boys in West Covina, Ca. I love them with all my heart.

BFP: Do you have any other family members?
Mimi: Well, I have those canine sisters (the M’s like me) who showed me how to be a dog. Misha taught me how to love to play chase and wrestle. Me and her play every day and are inseparable. Missy is also a beagle and is older, but we love to take long naps together. She taught me when and how to bark because I had no clue when it was needed. Like when the squirrel is in the tree, you really need to bark then.

BFP: What is your best trick?
Mimi: I am very obedient and learn new tricks very quickly. I high five, sit, lay down and have just recently mastered not jumping on my people. This was hard because I know they came to see me. Oh, and I really like running to the fridge when my mom get ice so she can give me a piece.

BFP: What is your worst habit?
Mimi: My worst habit is that I bark at the top of my lungs when my mom and dad get home and all the neighbor dog starts barking too. Also, I bark if my mom doesn’t make my food bowl as fast as I want. She thinks this is funny. Besides that, I am perfect.

BFP: Who is your best friend?
Mimi: Misha the Pug is my best canine friend. My favorite human is my mom and my human brother Matt.

BFP: Any pet peeves?
Mimi: I really want to eat, like, a lot of food and mom has me on a diet. The nerve of her cutting me off from my food.

BFP: What is your nickname?
Mimi: My nickname is mamas. My favorite place to be is in my mom and dad’s room sleeping where it nice and quiet.

BFP: One word to describe you.
Mimi: My mom said it’s hard to describe me in one word – she says I am very compassionate, gentle and devoted.

BFP: Anything else you’d like everyone to know?
Mimi: I don’t have anything, but my mom would like to say a few words.
Mimi’s mom: As for me the parent of an adopted lab dog I always wonder if they remember being in the lab.  Mimi still gets overwhelmed by other dogs. She enjoys her small pack, but isn’t too crazy about the dog park.
