Why Beagles?

The most common question I get asked is “Why are beagles used in animal testing?”

Beagles are the number one breed of choice for testing because of their friendly and docile nature. The same characteristics that make them incredible companions and family members, are why they are exploited by the animal testing industry.

“They won’t fight back,” said the technician at the laboratory. “They let us do anything we want to them, that’s why we like beagles.”

Bigsby was one of the first beagles I rescued. On our freedom ride, he kept giving me his paw and I thought it was so cute!

Soon my phone rang from the person at the lab who released him to me with some information. She asked me if he was giving me his paw…. Shocked, I said yes! I asked, “How do you know?” She said, “It’s not cute, it’s because he was taught to do that, to give his paw for blood.”

Sadly, Bigsby did this paw routine for the rest of his life. But at least when he was living in freedom, he was only met with the loving touch of a human hand in return.

I made it my life’s mission to fight for those still languishing in laboratories and to end animal testing once and for all.
