Four beagles once confined to an animal testing laboratory are now safe and free—at last, their lives are their own.

Noll. Trotter. Lausanne. Stymie.

Several years old at the time of their rescue, these dogs were given their first names only after escaping the laboratory—an act that marked the beginning of their lives as individuals, not data.

For years, they lived inside the walls of an animal testing facility in South Korea. Their days were defined by routine suffering: forced inhalation, ingestion, and repeated injections of harsh chemicals. There was no comfort, no choice, no understanding of why their bodies were being used this way. In the laboratory, they were not regarded as sentient or emotional beings. They were reduced to numbers—identified by ink tattooed inside their ears; their individuality erased in service of cruelty.

Through collaboration with trusted contacts in South Korea, Beagle Freedom Project supported the process that ultimately led to their release and safe transfer to loving families in the United States. What followed was not an instant transformation, but a careful beginning. For Noll, Trotter, Lausanne, and Stymie, freedom was disorienting at first. After years of abuse, the absence of pain felt unfamiliar. Like many laboratory survivors, they would cower and freeze at human contact—not out of defiance, but because they had never known a gentle touch. But slowly, their world began to change. Fear softened. Curiosity emerged. They started to see that this new life was warm, kind, and safe. They learned that they could be touched without harm. That they could rest. That they could be loved.

Today, each of the four beagles is thriving in a loving, adoptive home! And for the first time in their lives, their story belongs to them—not to a laboratory.
