Henry’s Monthly Sniffs

Hellllloooooooo everyone, my name is Henry, and I want to tell you all about my scary and sweet October.

I am a new friend at Freedom Fields, and even though I have only lived here for a few months … I love it! When the BFP team first rescued me, I was very, very sick. I was heartworm positive – which is as yucky as it sounds.

Before BFP saved me, I was living outside in a cage, and I was bitten by a mosquito. Now I bet that you have been bitten by mosquitoes before and it hurts and is a little itchy, but I did not have any vaccinations, so my itch got a lot worse.

One of my human friends at BFP took me on a special car ride to visit the vet. I was scared at first, but they were so gentle and kind. They gave me medicine and took really good care of me, so that I could start to get better. The mosquito had laid worm larvae into my blood, and the larvae went all the way to my heart and lungs – and if I did not have medicine, it would have been bad – very bad!

While I was having my treatments, (which took a very long time!) I had to be very calm so that meant that I could not play with my friends at Freedom Field’s or run around and be silly, it was hard to hear my friends all playing outside without me and it made me sad.

That was the scary part of my October, but the sweet part was that I had my last visit to the vet and my last heartworm treatment and now I am allowed to play again – thanks to BFP saving me I am no longer sick anymore.

My human friends at Freedom Fields were so happy and proud that they planned a special sweet surprise for me – A PUP CUP! I love pup cups and what an extra special Halloween treat! Now I hope that the next special surprise that I will get will be a home and my very own family.
