Memphis’ Sniff of the Month
Hi pals, my name is Memphis, and I’d like to tell you about my marvelous April adventures!
April started like any other month, but the grass as I knew it quickly turned into mud puddles. Now I know most people would be discouraged by this, but not me. I once heard that April showers will bring me extra May flowers to sniff! While the rain is flowing, and the flowers are growing, it’s my honor to keep Freedom Fields easy going. One day the rain subsided, and the birds came out to sing; I got to load up in the car and go do a new thing. It’s known that I enjoy going on walks, and I got to strut my stuff somewhere new with one of my pals, Poptart. Together, we faced a new place. I will say, having a friend by my side made it a breeze. We walked around a new park, met new humans and dogs, and sniffed to our hearts’ content. Poptart jumped on a bench and wow, she was so tall! As the excitement from our field trip fizzled out, so did my energy. One eyelid shut after the other and to snoozeville I went. ZzZzzZ.
A few days later during one of my outings to the dog park, I was moseying around taking in all of the smells when my nose stumbled across a… ball? It was unlike any ball I’d ever sniffed so I dared to touch it… EEK! The ball has legs! I backed up and squealed in shock. The humans quickly came to investigate this very serious matter. As it turns out, the ball was, in fact, just a turtle. I let out a sigh of relief as they safely relocated my new friend and I barked out “See ya later Shelly!” and off Shelly skedaddled.
The end of April was a whirlwind, BFP rescued a bouquet of new playmates! I took one look at them and said, “Welcome to the good life, this is just the beginning!” I can’t believe my ears, so many new friends – big and small! After getting to know each other I thought it would be fun to host a digging contest. You know I HAD to determine if my new friends had skill (and they do.) The humans put a few pools out, but we liked the more natural route, so we dug and dug together to create our own! “Now if the rain would come back and fill it up, our pool business would be booming.” my pal Winter whispered to me. I said, “We’ll settle for the clean pools the humans gave us – for now.” We quickly burst into laughter, closely mimicking a group of cackling hyenas.
April was entirely full of fun, and I am sad that it is near done. Each passing day, we grow closer to May. With that I pray, I will be in my forever home someday… soon.
