Operation Athena

For years, 148 beagles suffered in heartbreaking conditions at the hands of a backyard abuser/breeder in Oklahoma. Confined to filthy outdoor cages, they endured brutal weather, stood in their own waste, and were denied even the most basic comforts. No soft beds, no toys, no love – in some cases, not even food or water.

Some beagles, as old as twelve, were forced to breed over and over again. Their cries went unanswered. Until now.

Thanks to a coordinated rescue led by the Tulsa Humane Society, these dogs have been removed from the nightmare they have endured. Beagle Freedom Project jumped into action, and so far many of these beagles have now arrived at Freedom Fields, where they are beginning their journey towards healing.

But they can’t do it alone.

The Cost of Cruelty

The suffering these beagles endured wasn’t just emotional—it left their bodies broken, neglected, and in urgent need of care. Some are living with tumors that need to be removed. Others have broken bones that were never treated, left to heal improperly or not at all.

Many are battling internal and external parasites, infections, and illnesses that were ignored for years. Their mouths are filled with painfully diseased teeth, requiring extensive dental surgery just so they can eat without pain. Several have hernias that demand surgical repair. And every single one still needs to be spayed or neutered—basic procedures that were deliberately withheld to keep them trapped in the cycle of breeding.

But the deepest wounds are the ones we can’t immediately see. These dogs have survived years of psychological trauma: isolation, deprivation, and constant exploitation. Healing will take time, patience, and care—but for the first time in their lives, they have a chance.

Help Them Heal

Beagle Freedom Project is committed to caring for the survivors of this cruelty—and to rescuing even more still trapped in these conditions. But the medical costs are significant, and new health issues are being uncovered every day.

Your donation helps provide lifesaving veterinary care, including diagnostics, medications, and surgeries, as well as transportation to foster and adoptive homes. It also ensures each dog receives the basic comforts they’ve never known: clean blankets, safe toys, and nourishing food.
