Rescue + Freedom Project’s #RescueLifestyle campaign! The organization is urging supporters to share their animal’s rescue stories in order to promote adopting instead of purchasing from puppy mills and pet stores. Animal lovers are asked to upload a 30-second video to their Instagram or Twitter account featuring their pet’s story of survival followed by their animal’s favorite thing to do now that they are free. All participants are asked to tag @RescueFreedomProject, #RescueLifestyle & mention 3 friends to help spread the message or donate $3 to help fund R +…

Four lucky pups arrived in Los Angeles last week, rescued from the horrific South Korean meat trade. Getting dogs out of the most dangerous circumstances is the main mission of Shannon Keith, founder of Rescue + Freedom Project. For about a year now, she and her organization have been focused on getting dogs out of China and Korea, where the dog meat trade is thriving. It’s hard for Westerners to imagine, but in certain Eastern communities, dog meat is highly valued and is often traded and served in a sort…

A group of four dogs named for members of Queen (because they all just want somebody to love) were able to break free – and are about to have it all. In 2018, Freddie, May, Taylor, and Johnnie – also known as the “Bohemian Woof-sody” – were all stuck in the inhumane squalor of a South Korea dog meat farm. Today, the four canines are on U.S. soil searching for forever families. According to Rescue + Freedom Project, all of the canines, who the organizations says were likely pets before…

A paralyzed beagle who dragged herself out of a trash heap in Floyd County had a secret that might have given her even more of a reason to fight for her life. She was going to have puppies. Dixie Rose was found crawling away from a dump near Martin back in December, according to the Rescue Freedom Project. The organization, which works with animals that have been used in laboratory testing, stepped in to help her, and since then, she has been cared for by a foster family near Louisville.…

ROUND ROCK, Texas (KXAN) — Half a dozen dogs arrived in Round Rock Friday after an animal cruelty prevention organization rescued them from a laboratory in Mexico. The Rescue + Freedom Project took in six dogs as well as five rabbits and six guinea pigs. The charity said the animals were “subjected to a life of confinement” and testing at a lab. “These animals don’t have a voice. We’re their voice for them. They never asked to be sold to a laboratory,” volunteer Martin Palmer said. “There’s no reason for…

AUSTIN, Texas (FOX 7 Austin) – This isn’t your average pet adoption story. “The 6 dogs we got from Mexico was sold from a pound down there, sold to a non-disclosed laboratory university we were fortunate enough to have a group of people down there. They go to these places and ask if they have any dogs ready to be relinquished.” Martin Palmer is a volunteer at Rescue + Freedom Project saves animals all around the globe from laboratory experiments, hoarding cases, the meat trade, unique captivity and cruelty, and…

Bea the Beagle is our Pooch of the Month for December 2018. Usually we nominate a Parliamentarian of the Month to celebrate the work decision-makers do for animals. But this month we celebrate the inspirational story of Bea the Beagle who was saved from a life of painful experiments by the Rescue + Freedom Project and adopted by a loving family. During our Lead the Way campaign to stop cruel and unnecessary UK dog tests which gathered more than 80,000 petition signatures, wonderful support from Bea and her rescue family…

A dog with paralyzed back legs was rescued from a dump near Martin in Floyd County, where it had apparently been left, rescuers said. Dixie Rose is a beagle with a tattoo in her ear, which led rescuers to speculate that she was formerly a lab test animal, said Candice Thies of Stanton, who works with the Rescue Freedom Project. The Rescue Freedom Project is investigating Dixie Rose’s history and how she got in the dump. “Her back legs were paralyzed, but she was trying to crawl up to the…

FLOYD COUNTY, Ky. (LEX 18) – A dog in Floyd County is recovering after what was likely a very rough start in life. Rescuers believe she was used for lab testing before being left in a county dump partially paralyzed. The pup has been named Dixie Rose. Candice Theis with the Rescue Freedom Project says while they don’t know exactly what she’s been through, a marking tattooed in her ear means she was likely tested on in a lab. “I mean look at her, just…it tears me up to think…

Lawsuit Over Mizzou's $82,222 Public Records Fees Can Go to Trial, Judge Says

Categories : Highlights In The Press Mizzou Under Fire for Beagle Experiment

When members of the Beagle Freedom Project put in Sunshine law requests for records related to the care of lab animals at the University of Missouri-Columbia, the California-based non-profit wasn’t asking for anything too onerous: The university is required to maintain the records for federal inspectors. Yet somehow Mizzou determined that producing them would require staffers to be paid as much as $125/hour — and ultimately socked members with bills totaling $82,222 just to get a look. Unlike far too many individuals and, yes, journalists confronted with such stonewalling, the…

University of Missouri to go on trial over Sunshine Law practices

The animal rights group suing the University of Missouri over an estimated $82,000 charge for researching and copying public records won a victory Friday when Circuit Judge Jeff Harris ruled the case would go to trial. Harris rejected the university’s request that he enter a judgment in its favor and end the lawsuit by Animal Rescue Media Education, which also operates under the name the Beagle Freedom Project. The organization sued the university in 2016, charging that it had set the cost so high for its records that it effectively…
