In the United States we still use millions of animals in laboratory experiments. It’s a secretive industry and I think, many people are under the impression that it ended years ago. Not only is it still huge, but we test on just about every type of animal one can imagine, including dogs. 70,000 dogs a year are used in laboratory experiments and a great majority of them are beagles. The heartbreaking reason that beagles are so often the dog of choice is because they’re docile, sweet, trusting, and they don’t…

Animal rights group Beagle Freedom Project made its case this week that the University of Missouri violated the state’s Sunshine Law in a two-day bench trial of the group’s lawsuit against the university. Boone County Circuit Judge Jeff Harris said he will rule in the case after final findings and conclusions are submitted by both parties…

California’s canine blood banks harvest from caged dogs and operate in secrecy
When Robyn Black rushed her beloved corgi Winston to a veterinary hospital in Sacramento, she told the staff to do whatever it took to heal her pup as an autoimmune disease threatened his life. Winston needed several blood transfusions, but after two days of treatment, the veterinary hospital ran out of the canine lifeline. Pet hospitals often are short on dog blood amid a national shortage that lawmakers say is further exacerbated in California by the state’s restrictive laws that require veterinarians to buy dog blood solely from two blood…

We rescued River from a shelter in South Carolina. An officer found him lying next to the road begging someone to help him! We took him straight to emergency veterinary care, where he has remained in ICU. He is extremely emaciated with open wounds containing maggots. Somebody neglected him for years, and he has the symptoms to show for it. We will do everything we can to help River on his road to recovery.

NC bill would create online registry for convicted animal abusers
CHARLOTTE, N.C. (FOX 46 CHARLOTTE) – A new bipartisan proposal would create a publicly available online registry of convicted animal abusers, with increased penalties for those with multiple convictions, similar to the sex offender registry. “I think it’s absolutely imperative we do everything we can to stop animal abuse,” said McKissick. Senate Bill 423 was filed in March 2019 with Senators Floyd McKissick Jr. and Britt being the primary sponsors. “We need to be concerned about that because often times, these people who abuse animals would engage in conduct that…
